The Parts and Documents are PLM objects. They represent a product in real life.
Eg : A bicycle, a pack of cookies, a medicine, a wheel, a drawing, a 3D document, ...
Part and Document are subclasses of PLMObject. Depending on the industry you use OpenPLM for, we can define subclasses of Part and Document. Each subclass are designated as type.
Example 1 : | Example 2 : | Example 3 : |
---|---|---|
PLMObject | PLMObject | PLMObject |
...=> Part | ...=> Part | ...=> Document |
......=> Bicycle | ......=> CardboardPacking | ......=> Drawing |
......=> Wheel | ......=> PlasticWrap | ......=> Standard |
......=> Handlebar | ......=> Cake | ......=> TestData |
......=> Saddle | ......=> Floor | ......=> Document3D |
......=> ... | ......=> ... | ......=> ... |
In one subclass/type, you have several instances with a reference.
For a reference, you may have several revisions in order to trace the major modifications. They follow the a, b, c, ... sequence or 1, 2, 3, ... sequence or any other customized sequence.
Each Part and Document have a unique set of type, reference, revision.

Example : Bicycle / BI-2010 / a
